29 Months-29 Mesi

(Mom's turn)
It took us a while to recover from our trip to Italy, but we survived the jet lag, some colds and several viruses so that we could make it to Vittoria's best friend's birthday that fell on the 16th. Our little family spent the whole day together, just hanging out, watching movies, eating, catching up on some sleep and in the evening we went to Brittney's birthday party. She is 11 years old, and give her another year and she'll be taller than me, which it's not hard to do, considering that our little boy is just 3 1/2 and already reaches my waist.

We had a nice time and I'm positive that Vittoria is happy we spent this anniversary with her best friend and her family. These 2 have been best friends since we moved to Salt Lake City in 2003 and Brittney has been so good and protective of Vittoria.

(Vittoria, Brooklyn and Brittney having a tea party)

(Vittoria recovering from back surgery enjoying some chicken noodle soup with Brittney-Vittoria, a riposo dopo un'operazione alla schiena, si gode un po` di brodo con Brittney)

I know I write this all the time, but we miss her so very much that it hurts and we love her so deeply. Our Faith and our Families and Friends are the only things that keep us going, and every day I'm thankful the Lord gave us the Perfect Daughter to love and learn from and a Awesome Son who literally saved us, and that our Family will be TOGETHER FOREVER!!!!!

CHRISTMAS 2011 & NEW YEAR 2012-NATALE 2011 & ANNO NUOVO 2012

(Mom's turn)
DECEMBER 9,2011-9 DICEMBRE 2011
This year, we got to go back to Italy for Christmas so we could spend the Holidays with my Family. I was so super excited and could not wait to get on the plane.

Finally in Rome! Finalmente a Roma!!

Once claimed our luggage, we walked out and as soon as Jacomo saw my parents and Uncle Andy, he dropped his Spongebob trolley in the middle of the exit and ran to them with his arms wide open. It was so cute and touching! They brought his a Spiderman mask that he wore the whole trip to their place.

We finally made it! Jacomo was AWESOME!! I never traveled with him this good, I mean he slept, ate, played and watched TV without ever hearing a complaint out his mouth, even when he was woken up by his mom to ran all the way to the second gate that was conveniently on the other side of the airport to catch the second plane. I think he was too getting excited to see Nonno & Nonna again, Skype helps, but it's just not the same.

(Anybody sees what's wrong with this picture?? c'e` qualcosa che non va in questa foto??)
This is one picture I had to take: see, we don't have huge vehicles in Italy, especially in Rome, like trucks and SUVs, our cars are compact and small, to better fit in the narrow roads and parking lot spots. So when I saw this truck sticking out like that, I just could not pass it. I admire the driver who had the guts (and the madness) to drive a huge thing like that around and still find a way to park it. (by the way, on the other side of the truck, there is supposed to be another parking spot, but obviously, it was taken up by the truck).

These 2 photos are so funny: we went grocery shopping and Jacomo was totally at ease in the craziness of the store, pulling his little basket and checking out prices and products.

The day after Christmas is another holiday for us and my family has been celebrating it for the past few years with our closest family friends, for a "Left Over Lunch", where basically everyone brings "leftovers" from the previous days and get together to eat and visit.

On the way home we met up with my dad's cousins and to stopped to see my paternal grandmother's twin sister, who has always been a loving aunt to my family. She has diabetes and unfortunately she is now confined to a wheelchair. With all her health issues and despite being in a care center, she never complains, always with a smile on her face and full of love for all her nephews and relatives. I was so thankful to have been able to visit with her and hug her. She is truly an amazing woman.

VIA CONDOTTI-ROMA

(Via Condotti leading to the Spanish Steps- Via Condotti con in fondo Trinita` Dei Monti)

This is Via del Corso all decorated for the Holidays. It's almost 1 mile long and it was so crowded, sometimes it was impossible to walk, but worth to see this mile long light display.

Our family took a trip to go to Montelanico to visit my uncle Cesare and my aunt Savina, well technically they are my mom's, since he is my grandpa's brother, but to me they are close family. I was so very excited to see them, it has been maybe a couple of years since I saw them last time. Growing up I spent part of my summers with my maternal grandparents at their summer home in Segni, a town North of Rome, and we would often come and visit my uncle and aunt. So many memories, collecting the fresh eggs, feeding the fish in the fountain outside their home, eating fresh figs on the huge marble table underneath the grapevine and visiting until it was time to go.

We invited for dinner two of my brother's best friends, Lele & Andrea, whom basically were "adopted" by our family. These two very sweet guys are the ones that while Vittoria was in the hospital fighiting for her life, made the huge banner for her and displayed at the soccer stadium, so yes, they are like family to us. Jacomo loved to have all the attention and he had a great time with them.

January 5, 2012-5 Gennaio 2012
This was another visit that I wish I had done a long long time ago. We went to visit my dad's cousin, Andreina and her family, who live in a town in province of Rome, where Rome's International Airport is at.
I remember being at her wedding maybe 20 something years ago or even more and falling in love with her wedding dress, she looked like a princess...and I was stuck wearing black pants and a bright fuchsia color short jacket, but I liked the French braid with the matching ribbon woven in it. Anyway, I had a really good time visiting with her, catching up and remembering.
I have one big regret that unfortunately will never go away : I wish I had brought Vittoria to meet her and her family...
