Family Time

This past weekend, once again we went to the cabin and spent some good family time together. It was relaxing and quiet and very much needed after a crazy week of work and stress.
Questo ultimo fine settimana, siamo di nuovo andati alla baita e devo dire che abbiamo trascorso questi giorni facendo molte attivita` solo noi tre. Era tranquillo e rilassante e soprattutto ne avevamo veramente bisogno dopo una settimana parecchio intensa tra stress e lavoro.

Since July 16th fell on a Saturday and didn't make it to the cemetery, I was glad to spend the morning visiting and talking with a very dear friend of mine and her kids, while James and Jacomo spend the day together, something that's pretty rare.
Visto che il 16 di luglio e` caduto di sabato e non siamo riusciti ad andare al cimitero, ho trascorso la mattinata in compagnia di una cara amica e i suoi bimbi, mentre James e Jacomo hanno trascorso la giornata insieme, visto che cio` accade molto raramente.

Once I got back home, we just spent the rest of the day with each other, cherishing the time we had together as a family, but not a minute throughout the day went by without my thoughts being on our sweet daughter, how much we miss her and love her and wish she was here.
Una volta tornata a casa, abbiamo trascorso il resto della giornata insieme, ma non un minuto e` passato durante la giornata che non abbia pensato alla nostra dolce bimba, a quanto ci manca e le vogliamo bene e a volerla qui con noi.

It's getting harder to put on paper how much still our hearts ache... probably because the 2 year mark is coming up and I wish to hug and kiss our Vittoria more than anything else in the world and hope family and friends know how much we appreciate their ever present love and support .
Sta diventando sempre piu` difficile esprimere a parole quanto soffrano ancora i nostri cuori...probabilmente perche` il secondo anniversario si sta avvicinando e il mio desiderio piu` ardente di poter ancora baciare e abbracciare la nostra Vittoria e spero che le nostre famiglie e i nostri amici sappiano quanto siamo grati per il loro affetto e supporto sempre presente.

We went to the cabin for the weekend of the 4th of July, but first though we stopped at the cemetery to bring flowers to Vittoria and the other relatives.
Per il weekend del 4 luglio siamo andati alla baita, prima pero` ci siamo fermati al cimitero a portare i fiori a Vittoria e agli altri parenti.

The mountains around the cabin are so green and the lake is way full to the point that a meadow that used to covered with grass and brushes and small trees, now is covered in water. I don't think I have ever seen the water level so high and is sure a sight.
Le montagne intorno alla baita sono verdissime e il lago e` talmente pieno che un immenso prato li` vicino che di solito e` sempre solo erba, con cespugli e alberi, questa volta e` coperto dall'acqua del lago. E` davvero incredibile, non credo di aver mai visto il livello dell'acqua cosi` alto ed e` uno spettacolo!

On Saturday morning, we watched the parade with the family and headed back to the cabin for the family reunion planned for the early afternoon.
Sabato mattina abbiamo assistito alla parata con il resto della famiglia e abbiamo fatto ritorno alla baita in vista della riunione di famiglia fissata per il pomeriggio.

On Monday morning we woke up early to take Jacomo fishing for the first time. It was interesting to say the least: every single time a fish got caught, he would jump up and down in the boat and couldn't wait to have it in the bag to stare at it. That was the highlight of our fishing trip! 30 minutes in the trip, Jacomo started to show signs of impatience and boredom and trying to keep a bored toddler still and quiet was quite a task, so we decided to call it a day and went back to the cabin.
Lunedi` mattina ci siamo svegliati presto per portare Jacomo a pescare per la prima volta. E` stato interessante: ogni volta che un pesce veniva preso, Jacomo saltava su e giu` nella barca e non vedeva l'ora di fissarlo una volta messo nella sacca. Quello e` stato il momento clou della nostra escursione! Dopo mezz'ora, Jacomo ha incominciato a dare segni di impazienza e noia e cercare di tenere buono e fermo un bimbo piccolo era una fatica enorme, cosi` abbiamo deciso di tornare alla baita.

22 Months-22 Mesi

We didn't make it to the cemetery this month, but it doesn't mean we were thinking about our Vittoria on the 22 months mark.
We stayed home and enjoyed some family time. Our little boy is growing up very fast, and I can't believe he is already 2 1/2 years old. Time goes by, sometimes it flies, some others it crawls so very slowly. We love to spend time with our son, he is a lot of fun, an eager helper and a very curious explorer. He loves to be outside, and especially playing with the water.
Questo mese proprio non ce l'abbiamo fatta ad andare al cimitero, ma cio` non significa che i nostri pensieri non sono rivolti alla nostra Vittoria.
Siamo invece rimasti a casa e trascorso del tempo in famiglia. Il nostro bimbo sta crescendo in fretta, e ancora non ci posso credere che ha 2 anni e mezzo. Il tempo passa, a volte volta, altre volte si trascina molto lentamente. Adoriamo trascorrere le giornate con il nostro bimbo, e` divertente, e` un aiutante entusiasta e un esploratore molto curioso. Ama stare all'aperto, e soprattutto giocare con l'acqua.

At the beginning of June, we took an unplanned trip to the cabin to get away from the stress of work and life in general. We went 4-wheeling just the 3 of us, and we witnessed a deer in the process of giving birth. It was almost too incredible to be true, but amazing and very rare to see. There was still some snow on the very top and the several ponds around the mountains are filling up pretty fast. Overall, it was a nice relaxing day for our little family, also knowing that our sweet baby girl was with us every step of the way.
All'inizio di giugno, abbiamo fatto un viaggetto non programmato alla baita, tanto per allontanarci dallo stress del lavoro e della vita in generale. Siamo andati sulle quad solo noi 3 e mentre giravamo abbiamo visto un cervo nel procinto di partorire. Era troppo bello per essere vero, un'esperienza incredibile e molto rara. C'era ancora un bel po` di neve sulle cime piu` alte e i vari laghetti tutti intorno si stavano riempiendo abbastanza velocemente. Complessivamente e` stata una giornata molto rilassante per la nostra famigliola, sapendo anche che la nostra bimba era sempre al nostro fianco.

Memorial Day 2011

We spent this Memorial Day weekend at the cabin with some of James' family. It was nice to get away for a long weekend and being able to relax on the mountains.
Abbiamo trascorso il weekend del Giorno dei Morti alla baita con la famiglia di James. E` stato bello allontanarsi dalla citta` per un fine settimana piu` lungo e rilassarsi in montagna.

We spent the first part of the weekend putting cleaning up and putting the cabin back together after the flood back in February. On Sunday, after Church, we went to the cemetery to bring our flowers for the occasion. There is something about this cemetery in the spring/summer time: the grass is more vibrant than ever and all the colors from the flowers and flags and decorations make it festive and very pretty to look at.
Abbiamo trascorso la prima parte del fine settimana a pulire e risistemare la baita dopo l'alluvione che ha danneggiato buona parte della casa. Domenica siamo andati al cimitero a portare i nostri fiori. Il cimitero durante la stagione primaverile ed estiva cambia completamente aspetto: il prato e` di un verde piu` intenso e i colori dei fiori e delle decorazioni lo rendono piu` vivace, quasi festivo.

Every year, weeks before Memorial Day, many residents of Carbon and Emery Counties, and among them many college students, get together to keep a very touching and thoughtful tradition alive: to make sure that every headstone in every cemetery has a flower and making sure that no one is forgotten.
Ogni anno, settimane prima del Giorno dei Morti, gli abitanti delle contee di Carbon e Emery e tra loro parecchi studenti universitari si ritrovano per mantenere viva una tradizione commovente e molto significativa: far si` che ogni tomba in ogni cimitero abbia un fiore e che nessuno venga dimenticato.

For many of the students participating is a way to pay tribute to family, and even those without a personal connection have gotten involved with the project and the flowers have brought together an intere community.
Per molti degli studenti che partecipano e` un modo di rendere omaggio alla famiglia, e anche quelli senza un legame personale hanno partecipato al progetto e i fiori hanno riunito una intera comunita`.

Vittoria's grave got a flower too and like last year, it was interesting to notice that with all the colors of flowers availble she got a PURPLE flower! It was so moving to see it and thinking how tickled she would be that somebody chose her favorite color for her.
Anche la tomba di Vittoria ha ricevuto un fiore ed era interessante notare che con tutti i colori di fiori disponibili, quest'anno come l'anno scorso le hanno messo un fiore VIOLA! E` stato toccante vederlo e pensare quanto sarebbe contenta che qualcuno ha scelto un fiore del suo colore preferito.

On Monday, the day started with a crash: at 7:45 am I woke up to glass shattering and people screaming! Well, James' dad was cleaning the window on the outside, but the ladder suddenly slipped on the snow and crashed through the window sending glass everywhere and he slipped into the rungs, which saved him from a fall on his head. So while he was hanging upside down, James, with no shoes or socks on, ran through the glass to help his dad and cut up the bottom of his feet. We cleaned and vacuumed for hours but it wasn't a big deal thinking how worse things could have gotten. I think an Angel (Vittoria) was watching over her Grandpa (and her Dad).
Lunedi` mattina presto sono stata svegliata dal rumore di vetri che andavano in frantumi e gente che urlava! Mentre il papa` di James stava pulendo un finestrone da fuori, la scala su cui si trovava e` scivolata sulla neve ed e` andata a sbattere contro la finestra distruggendola, mentre mio suocero e` scivolato tra i pioli della scala ed e` rimasto appeso a testa in giu`. Per fortuna che le gambe sono rimaste incastrate nei pioli che l'hanno salvato dal cadere a testa in giu` sul portico. James, senza scarpe o calzini, di corsa si e` precipitato ad aiutare il padre, tagliandosi tutti i piedi. Abbiamo pulito e passato il battitappeto per ore, ma non e` stato nulla di problematico, considerando che le cose sarebbero potute andare molto peggio. Sono sicura che un Angelo (Vittoria) sta vegliando sul nonno ( e il suo papa`).
