Vittoria would have been 9 years old today...Not how we imagined we would be spending this birthday, or last year's birthday. I often think what she would have liked as a birthday present or what kind of cake she would have wanted. I know she would have liked to have her family and friends around, so we tried to honor that.
Vittoria avrebbe compiuto 9 anni oggi.. Non avremmo immaginato di trascorrere questo compleanno cosi', o quello dell'anno scorso. Penso spesso a cosa le sarebbe piaciuto ricevere come regalo o che tipo di torta avrebbe voluto. So che avrebbe voluto la sua famiglia e amici intorno, cosi' abbiamo cercato di onorare un suo desiderio.
Last birthday she celebrated with us she was turning 7 and she had her cousins and friends celebrating with her. She looked so beautiful with her long brown hair and her pretty eyes behind her purple glasses. She had a great time. She never had a big birthday party before, but that was the only time when we had lots of people over... almost like we knew it would have been her last birthday.
L'ultimo compleanno celebrato insieme, Vittoria aveva compiuto 7 anni e tutte le sue cugine e amiche erano presenti. Era bellissima con i suoi capelli marroni lunghi e i suoi bei occhi dietro gli occhiali viola. Si e' divertita un mondo. Non ha mai avuto un compleanno celebrato alla grande cosi' prima di allora, e' stata l'unica volta che abbiamo avuto un sacco di gente a casa... come se sapessimo che sarebbe stato il suo ultimo compleanno insieme.

After spending the weekend at the cabin and meeting with my uncle and aunt and cousins from Italy, on Monday the 23rd, we made it to Price to meet James' family and our friends.
Dopo aver trascorso il fine settimana alla baita, insieme ai miei parenti dall'Italia, lunedi' 23 siamo andati a Price per incontrarci con la famiglia di James e amici.
We arrived at the cemetery to see that Vittoria's photo had been finally put on her grave marker, it was complete. I think it turned out pretty nice and I love this photo of hers because it sums up her personality: her braids, her smile with a missing tooth, her purple glasses and her pose like a princess. That's our baby girl.
Siamo arrivati al cimitero e abbiamo visto che la foto di Vittoria e' stata finalmente messa sulla lapide, adesso e' completa. Penso che sia venuta abbastanza bene e amo questa sua foto perche' riassume la sua personalita': le trecce, il suo sorriso senza un dente, gli occhiali viola e la sua posa da principessa. Questa e' la nostra bimba.
We all met at the cemetery and others from their homes to launch the balloons precisely at 5:46pm. The purple, pink and white balloons had attached messages from people all over the United States and Italy. Vittoria loved to launch balloons. Her school did it every year as a kick off to a new school year. We are sure she was smiling as we let them go.
Ci siamo ritrovati tutti al cimitero per lanciare i palloncini ad esattamente le 17:46, come hanno fatto alcuni amici dalle loro case. I palloncini viola, rosa e bianchi avevano dei messaggi di gente da tutti gli Stati Uniti e Italia. Vittoria amava lanciare i palloncini. La sua scuola lo faceva ogni anno come inizio del nuovo anno scolastico. Siamo convinti che lei stesse sorridendo quando li abbiamo lasciati andare in cielo.

We as parents are so grateful for all of your love and support. It was a pretty tough day. We had all of James' family there, and also my parents, my uncle and aunt, and my 2 cousins from Italy and close family friends. Thank you to all of you who have launched balloons from your own home to honor our daughter and to those who could not be there but sent messages to launch with the balloons. It moved us deeply to see how many people still care and love us. It was a very special moment. To top it off, our little boy, who seconds earlier was playing with his cousins, stopped by Vittoria's grave, knelt and ran his little chubby fingers down Vittoria's face and started talking gibberish. I think he was talking to her in his own way. Afterwards, we all went to James parent's home for a delicious dinner, put together by his mom and our 4 sisters.
Siamo grati per tutto il vostro affetto e supporto. E' stata una giornata parecchio dura emotivamente. Al cimitero c'era tutta la famiglia di James, oltre ad i miei genitori, mio zio e mia zia e i miei due cugini dall'Italia.
Grazie a tutti coloro che hanno lanciato i palloncini dalle loro case per onorare nostra figlia e grazie a coloro che non potendo esserci hanno mandato i messaggi da attaccare ai palloncini. Ci ha commosso profondamente vedere quanta gente ancora si preoccupa e ci vuole bene. E'stato veramente un momento speciale. E per finire il nostro bimbo che fino pochi secondi prima era intento a giocare con le cugine, si e' inginocchiato davanti alla tomba di Vittoria, ha accarezzato il viso di Vittoria con le sue dita cicciotte e ha iniziato a fare tutto un discorso imcomprensibile. Penso che le stesse parlando a modo suo. Dopo siamo andati tutti a casa dei genitori di James per una cena molto buona organizzata dalla sua mamma e dalle 4 sorelle.
