Same place, one year later. This year for Easter we went camping with James’ family and extended family in the same spot of last year. We were able to have 4 days of what I call “Extreme Camping”, which means being out in the desert, on your own for food, power, water supply and so on (not the kind of camping I grew up doing). The night before we left, we (James and I) colored the hard boiled eggs, since Jacomo was already in bed, so that the morning of our departure he could at least decorate them with stickers and “hair”.
Stesso posto, un anno dopo. Quest'anno per Pasqua siamo andati a fare campeggio con la famiglia di James nello stessso luogo dell'anno scorso. Abbiamo fatto 4 giorni di "Campeggio Estremo", il che significa essere nel deserto lontano da tutti, contando solo su noi stessi per vibo, elettricita`, acqua e cosi` via ( non il tipo di campeggio che ho fatto crescendo). La sera prima di partire, (James ed io) abbiamo colorato le uova sode come tradizione, visto che Jacomo era gia` a letto, cosi` la mattina della nostra partenza, ha almeno potuto decorarle con adesivi e "capelli".
We got there on Thursday late afternoon and basically spent the rest of the day setting up camp. The weather was a little concerning there for a while, since it had rained and blown pretty hard wind, just Friday was a nice day with a pretty clear sky. Like always, there was enough food to feed an army, and each of the different families took turns to cook.
Siamo arrivati sul posto giovedi` pomeriggio tardi e in pratica abbiamo trascorso il resto della giornata a sistemare le roulotte e le cucine da campeggio. Il tempo e` stato non proprio bello, con vento freddo e parecchie nuvole, con qualche pioggia sporadica che ha abbassato ancora di piu` la temperatura. Solo venerdi` e` stato tutto l'opposto. Come sempre c'era abbastanza cibo per un esercito, visto che ogni famiglia faceva a turno per cucinare.

The kids (lots of them!) played, rode horses, went four wheeling, hiked and went on the traditional Easter egg hunt among the rocks and trees on Saturday.I bambini (tanti, ma proprio tanti) hanno corso, giocato, scavato, scalato, cavalcato cavalli e sabato hanno fatto la tradizionale caccia all'uovo tra rocce ed alberi.
Jacomo never took a nap during these 4 days, and oh boy, by the time the evening came around he would just fall asleep as soon as his head touched the pillow. He loved it. He would just take off and go climb and explore on his own.
Durante questi 4 intensissimi giorni, Jacomo non ha mai riposato il pomeriggio e alla sera arrivava distrutto, infatti si addormentava non appena poggiava la testa sul cuscino. Si e` pero` divertito come un matto, prendeva e partiva ed andava da solo ad esplorare i dintorni.

On Saturday afternoon, everybody, except us, left camp to come back the following evening. It was just the 3 of us. Everything was so quiet, you could almost hear yourself think. We sat around the fire, talked while Jacomo played around the camp. We had dinner and roasted some marshmallows and went to bed.
Sabato poemriggio, tutti, eccetto noi, sono tornati a casa per ritornare la sera dopo. C'era un silenzio incredibile. Ci siamo seduti intorno al fuoco a chiaccherare mentre Jacomo giocava vicino a noi. Abbiamo cenato, arrostito i marshmallows sul fuoco e andati a letto.
This is what we woke up on Sunday morning: SNOW!!!! During the night, we could hear some soft rain coming down, but early in the morning, it must have turned to snow. It was sure a beautiful view, so peaceful and quiet. When I brought Jacomo's snow clothes with us for the weekend, I would have never thought that they would come handy. James started a fire, and Jacomo played in the snow with his shovel.
Questa e` la veduta dalla nostra roulotte quando ci siamo svegliati domenica mattina: NEVE!! Durante la notte, potevamo sentire la pioggia scendere piano, ma deve essersi trasformata in neve la mattina presto. Il paesaggio era bellissimo, quasi incantato, tutto intorno solo silenzio e pace. Quando ho messo i vestiti da neve di Jacomo in valigia, mai e poi mai avrei mai pensato che ci sarebbero stati utili. James ha subito fatto il fuoco e Jacomo andava in giro con la pala a rimuovere la neve.
Around lunchtime, thanks to a little bit of sun, the snow started to melt, leaving a lot of mud everywhere.
Verso l'ora di pranzo, con l'aiuto di un timido sole, la neve ha incominciato a scogliersi e a lasciar posto a fango ovunque.

Another holiday without our sweet Vittoria. We miss her terribly. There are no words that can properly describe how much my heart hurts. I'm always surrounded by people, but I feel alone. I don't think that as the approaching second year since Vittoria's passing has been easier, actually has been harder than the first. During the first year, I don't think the shock ever wore off and being in denial was part of my being. Now it's the harsh and cruel reality of this world. And even though I know we will see her again and she is part of our Eternal Family, it still doesn't change the fact that I want her here with us, RIGHT NOW, so we can hold her soft skinny hand and snuggle up together and more than anything to hear her soft voice.
Un'altra festivita` senza la nostra dolce Vittoria. Ci manca da morire. Non ci sono parole adatte che possono descrivere quanto mi faccia male il cuore. Sono sempre circondata da tanta gente, eppure mi sento sola. Non penso che questo secondo anno dalla sua scomparsa sia piu` facile, forse ancora piu` difficile del primo. Durante il primo anno, non penso che lo shock che abbiamo ricevuto sia mai andato via, eravamo come in catalessi e il rifiuto totale di quanto era successo era parte di me. Ora invece c'e`la dura e crudele realta` di questo mondo. Nonostante sappiamo che un giorno la rivedremo di nuovo e che siamo una famiglia eterna, non cambia il fatto che vorrei che fosse qui con noi in questo momento, ADESSO. Voglio tenere la sua manina tra le mie, farle le coccole e piu` di ogni altra cosa, vorrei sentire la sua vocina.
