August 16, 2011- 16 Agosto 2011

(Mom's turn)
2 Years!!! Really?? Where did time go? I just can't believe it, and if it wasn't for the calendar marking the days going by, it still feels like yesterday to me. These past weeks, I have been reliving those long days at the hospital, every single up and down we endured, surgery after surgery, waiting and praying for a miracle, making bargains with the Lord to heal our daughter and give her back to us.

I found this second year without our Vittoria to be the toughest and the saddest...I think during the first I was still in shock and disbelief that something like this had happened to us, this second year we just tried to survive and adjust to our new and different life. We went to the cemetery today and brought her flowers. It was so pretty and such a colorful and bright sight to see with flowers from our families and friends.

(Leave it to Jacomo to lighten up the mood-Jacomo cerca di tirarci su di morale)

(Aunt Mary and cousin Adelia made this with wild flowers and purple petals, so pretty!!

We miss our Vittoria dearly, every day I wake up thinking it's been just another bad dream... my heart hurts just like the first day and every day even more. I wish she was here to be a big sister to Jacomo and teach him things. I wish she was here so we could talk and I could confide in her like I've done so many other times. I wish she was here so I can hear her laughing and see her eyes sparkle with mischief. I miss her so so much it takes my breath away. I see her in the many things her little brother does and I have no doubt he knows she is with him always. It's touching how out of the blue he picks up a framed picture of his sister and hugs it and talks to it, pulls faces at it and kisses it and then goes back to playing again. He walks in her room with a look of awe and a smile on his face, very careful to not touch anything he is not supposed to and goes straight for her toys. I imagine Vittoria sitting on her chair or her bed, or following him around and showing him all the girly stuff and maybe trying to convince him to play Polly Pockets or Barbie with her.It makes me smile..
