Jacomo is 4!! Jacomo compie 4 anni!!

Our little boy is 4! We can't believe, it seems like yesterday that he came into our life and made it so much happier, fun and challenging. He was born at 6 lbs and 19 inches, with lots of long dark hair.
I never thought he would change so much in just 4 years:  his hair is now lighter brown and his eyes brown/green,and he is pretty tall. He definitely didn't get his height from his mom, thank goodness!
Il nostro bimbo ha 4 anni! E` incredibile, sembra ieri che e` venuto al mondo e ha reso la nostra vita piu` felice, divertente ma anche piu` impegnativa. Alla nascita pesava 2.7 Kg ed era lungo 48 cm, con tanti capelli scuri e lunghi. Mai avrei immaginato quanto sarebbe cambiato in 4 anni: i capelli sono castano chiaro, gli occhi cambiano colore dal marrone a verde scuro, un po` come il papa` ed e` parecchio alto, per fortuna non ha preso l'altezza da me!

Jacomo is a  good and very funny boy, very stubborn, affectionate, polite and helpful, but oh boy, does he have his moments! His tantrums are not as frequent as they used to be, but I remember a few times when I seriously didn't know what to do. Our life with our little Jacomo is so very different from the life we used to know with our Vittoria. This boy is always on the go, 24/7, and the stuff he does scares me big time. His back flips and dives from the couch are just adding gray hair to us poor parents, but he would do anything to make us laugh, and he does make us laugh. We are so very thankful to have him, we love him so very much and we are trying our best to be good parents to him, it's not always easy, but life is too fragile and uncertain and we have little treasures right in front of our eyes that we can focus on... our children!

Jacomo e` un bravo bimbo, molto divertente e parecchio testardo, affettuoso, cortese e servizievole, ma quando gli prendono i 5 minuti!! I suoi capricci non sono frequenti come una volta, ma ricordo alcune volte che non avevo la piu` pallida idea di cosa fare. La nostra vita con Jacomo e` cosi` diversa dalla vita che conoscevamo con la nostra Vittoria. Questo bimbo non si ferma mai, 24 ore su 24, 7 giorni su 7 e le cose che fa mi spaventano tantissimo. I suoi salti all'indietro e i tuffi dal divano aumentano i capelli bianchi a noi poveri genitori, ma farebbe qualsiasi cosa per farci ridere e Jacomo ci fa davvero ridere. Siamo davvero grati di averlo come figlio, gli vogliamo un bene dell'anima e cerchiamo di essere buoni genitori, non e` sempre facile, ma la vita e` troppo fragile e imprevedibile, abbiamo dei piccoli grandi tesori proprio di fronte ai nostri occhi.....i nostri figli!!

Jacomo woke up on the morning of his birthday so excited! After breakfast, he got to open my parents' gift while Skyping with them. It was really neat and special. Later in the afternoon, we gather with dear family friends to celebrate his birthday and opening presents. Thank you to that were able to come and to those far away who called and send cards and gifts. We appreciate your generosity and friendship. We love you!

Jacomo si e` svegliato la mattina del suo compleanno cosi` contento! Dopo colazione, ha aperto il regalo dai miei genitori mentre erano in diretta su Skype. E` stato davvero speciale. Piu` tardi, nel pomeriggio, con cari amici di famiglia ci siamo riuniti per celebrare il compleanno di Jacomino. Grazie a quelli che sono potuti venire e a quelli lontani che hanno chiamato e mandato biglietti di auguri e regali, Grazie per la vostra generosita` e amicizia. Vi vogliamo bene!

HALLOWEEN 2012

A couple of days before Halloween, we spent the evening drawing and carving pumpkins. It was a little family activity that we have enjoyed doing with our kids and Jacomo finally got to clean out his pumkin for the first time. Judging from the pictures, I don't think he was that impressed, but he did it.
Un paio di giorni prima di Halloween, abbiamo trascorso la serata disegnando e intagliando le zucche. E` una piccola attivita` per famiglia che amiamo fare con i nostri bambini e Jacomo finalmente ha pulito la sua zucca tutto da solo per la prima volta. A giudicare dalle foto pero` non penso che sia rimasto favorevolmente colpito, ma nonostante qualche protesta, l'ha fatto.

Halloween 2008- Halloween day had not even been over that Vittoria was already thinking about Halloween 2009 and what she wanted to dress like. She wanted to be Scarlett O'Hara from "Gone With the Wind". Sweet baby girl, now you can be anything you want!

This morning I had the chance to be part of something that we hold dear to our hearts.

 Most of you know that Vittoria, during her very last surgery in August 2009, ended up on the heart transplant list. Yes, we were waiting for a heart that could save our little girl and bring her back to us. We waited and waited, prayed, made bargains with God, and prayed some more.

 

Questa mattina ho avuto l'opportunita`di diventare parte di qualcosa che e` caro ai nostri cuori.

Molti di voi gia` sanno che Vittoria, durante la sua ultima operazione nell'agosto 2009, fini` sulla lista del trapianto di cuore. Stavamo aspettando un cuore per poteva salvare la nostra bimba e riportarla tra noi. Abbiamo aspettato, pregato, abbiamo patteggiato con il Signore e pregato ancora.

 

Days went by, and despite the many prayers offered by family, friends and total strangers, the heart we were hoping for never came. We were crushed. The reality of what it takes to get a heart never really hit me until I read somedody's comment that said that in order for our daughter to receive a heart, somebody else's child would have to die. Is that what we had prayed for? For another child, somebody's baby, to die? For another family to suffer the unthinkable and still be so very generous to donate the gift of life to a virtual stranger? Would we have donated our little girl's heart or any other organs if it would have been possible? 

I giorni passavano e nonostante le tantissime preghiere offerte da famiglie, amici e completi sconosciuti, il cuore in cui speravamo tanto non e` mai arrivato. Eravamo distrutti. La realta` di cio` che serve per ricevere un cuore non mi aveva mai colpito fino a quando non ho letto il commento di qualcuno che diceva che affinche` nostra figlia potesse ricevere un cuore, il/la figlio/a di qualcun altro avrebbe dovuto morire. Era questo cio` per cui pregavamo? Che un'altra famiglia soffrisse l'immaginabile e allo stesso essere generosa nel donare la vita ad uno sconosciuto? Se fosse stato possibile, avremmo mai accettato di donare gli organi di Vittoria?

 

 

Vittoria's passing changed many things. I became an organ donor. After what we had been through, how could I not? Vittoria did not get her heart, but I decided that it's my job as her mom and a way to honor her to spread the awareness surrounding organ donation and donating the gift of life.

My dear friend Traci, whose baby boy was just a few feet away from our Vittoria in the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), introduced me to a group that I am now proud to be part of. 

It's called The M.O.D. Squad ( Mothers for Organ Donation).

La scomparsa di Vittoria ha cambiato molte cose. La prima di tutte? Sono diventata donatrice di organi. Dopo quello che abbiamo passato, come non potevo non farlo? Vittoria non ha ricevuto il suo cuore, ma ho deciso che e` il mio compito di mamma e un modo per onorarla di aumentare la consapevolezza tra la gente circa i trapianti d'organo.

La mia cara amica Traci, il cui bimbo era non lontano da Vittoria nel reparto pediatrico di terapia intensiva, mi ha fatto conoscere un gruppo di cui sono orgogliosa di far parte.

Si chiama la Squadra M.O.D (Mamme per la Donazione Organi).

It's a group of moms whose children have either had a transplant or are waiting for lifesaving transplants, and our purpose is to raise awareness and hope that people don't rule themselves out as donors, just because they have diabetes or can't donate blood (I can't donate blood, but that does not exclude me from being a donor).

This fall, Intermountain Donor Services ( http://www.idslife.org/) partnered with our group to bust myths about organ donation and encourage people to become organ donors.

E` un gruppo di mamme i cui figli hanno ricevuto o sono in attesa di un trapianto d'organo e il nostro scopo di sfatare dei miti circa il trapianto, aumentare la consapevolezza tra la gente e sperare che il pubblico non si escluda dall'essere donatore di organi solo perche` ha il diabete o non puo` donare sangue (qui non posso donare sangue, ma cio` non mi esclude dall'essere donatrice).

Fall Trip-Viaggio d'autunno

Finally after much planning, we were able to get away for a long weekend with our dearest friends. I think both families had been looking forward to relax and enjoy the mountains, away from stress and everyday life. We spent two and half days doing abosutely nothing, but riding horses, four-wheelers, eating, playing, relaxing and just enjoying each other's company. It was definately what we needed and had a blast and loved that James' dad came up and joined us.

Finalmente dopo parecchi giorni trascorsi ad organizzare il nostro viaggio, siamo riusciti a trascorrere un lungo fine settimana con i nostri amici piu` cari. Sono sicura che le nostre due famiglie non vedevano l'ora di rilassarsi e godersi le montagne, lontano dallo stress della vita di tutti i giorni. Abbiamo trascorso due giorni e mezzo senza fare niente, se non cavalcare i cavalli, andare sulle quad, mangiare, giocare, rilassarsi e godersi la compagnia. Senza dubbio avevamo bisogno di questa mini vacanza e ci siamo davvero divertiti.

38 Months-38 Mesi

At the beginning of October, we got to have a very special experience: flying in a helicopter, a Llama to be precised. This time, I decided to go along. This is the same kind of  helicopter that exactly six years ago took James, Vittoria and my cousin's husband Emanuele for a ride. That time  I decided to stay on the ground with my cousin Francesca, while James and Emanuele sat in the back with Vittoria between them.

All'inizio di ottobre, abbiamo avuto un'esperienza molto speciale: abbiamo volato in un elicottero, un Lama per essere precisi. Questa volta ho deciso di andare pure io. Questo e' esattamente lo stesso tipo di elicottero che sei anni fa ha fatto fare un giro a James, Vittoria ed Emanuele, marito di mia cugina. Quella volta, decisi di rimanere a terra con mia cugina Francesca, mentre James ed Emanuele con Vittoria seduta in mezzo decollavano.

And just like his sister, Jacomo was completely thrilled and laughing the whole time we were in the air, not worried a bit about the bumpy ride because of the wind.
Proprio come sua sorella, Jacomo era completamente impazzito dalla gioia e ha riso tutto il tempo che eravamo in aria, non preoccupato assolutamente del volo un po` turbolento a causa del vento.

Once back in Price, we met  with my sister-in-law Tori and her little boy Bridger and visited for a bit, while the boys got carted around.
Una volta tornati a Price, ci siamo incontrati con mia cognata Tori e il suo bimbo Bridger e abbiamo fatto shopping mentre i maschietti se ne stavano beati nel carrello.

 Before going back home, we of course stopped at the cimitery to leave a little scarecrow doll and a butterfly wand for Vittoria.
Prima di tornare a casa, ci siamo ovviamente fermati al cimitero per lasciare una bambolina spaventapasseri e una bacchetta magica a forma di farfalla per Vittoria.

We took Jacomo to pick pumpkins at the same pumpkin patch where Vittoria picked hers 4 years ago. It was such a beautiful day, and Jacomo just went crazy when he saw so many pumpkins that he could not decided which one he wanted.
Abbiamo portato Jacomo a raccogliere le zucche nello stesso post dove Vittoria scelse la sua 4 anni. Era una giornata stupenda, un cielo limpido e l'aria piu` fredda, tipica di ottobre e Jacomo e` completamente impazzito quando ha visto cosi` tante zucche che non riusciva neanche a decidere quale voleva.

Vittoria, not a minute goes by in our days that we don't think of you and of what we should be doing toegether at this time. We love you so much sweetheart and miss you terribly. Please watch over us.
Vittoria, non passa un minuto nelle nostre giornate che non ti pensiamo e a quello che avremmo dovuto fare insieme in questo momento. Ti vogliamo tantissimo bene tesoro e ci manchi da morire. Ti prego, veglia su di noi.
