Christmas Lights 2010-Luci di Natale 2010

This past Monday we went to see the Christmas lights at Temple Square with Vittoria's best friend and her family. I think we chose the perfect night, it wasn't too cold and not too crowded and the traffic wasn't too heavy,which is always a plus.
Questo lunedi` passato, siamo andati a vedere le luci di Natale a Temple Square con la migliore amica di Vittoria e la sua famiglia. Penso che abbiamo scelto la serata perfetta, non faceva troppo freddo e non era troppo affollato e il traffico non era troppo pesante, il che e` sempre positivo.

Once crossed the gates, it feels like one has entered a magical world, almost like a fairytale. Every single tree branch and bush has lights, and everywhere one turns, one sees just lights.
Passati i cancelli, sembra di entrare in un mondo magico, quasi da favola. Ogni singolo ramo di albero e ogni cespuglio ha le luci, e ovunque ti giri, ci sono luci dappertutto.

It was a nice evening to spend together as a family. Afterwards, we stopped for some hot chocolate and to visit some more.
E` stata una serata piacevole da trascorrere insieme. Sulla via del ritorno ci siamo fermati per una cioccolata calda e fare un po` di chiacchiere.

This trip brought me back to last time we took Vittoria to see the lights: it was December of 2007, we got together with some friends and braving the cold, we walked around and enjoyed the beautiful view. I remember it was sooo cold, there was snow on the ground and we wore snowcoats, gloves and hats. Vittoria absolutely loved it, and not once ever complained about the cold.
Questa gita notturna mi ha riportato indietro all'ultima volta che abbiamo portato Vittoria a vedere le luci: era il dicembre del 2007, ci siamo ritrovati con alcuni amici di famiglia e sfidando il freddo, abbiamo passeggiato per un po`e ci siamo goduti il panorama. Ricordo che faceva un freddo terribile, c'era la neve e noi eravamo imbacuccati con le giacche da sci, guanti e cappelli. A Vittoria era piaciuto tantissimo, tanto che non l'ho mai sentita lamentarsi del freddo che faceva.

I would like to keep up this tradition of going to see the Christmas lights for the three of us, Jacomo sure enjoyed it, and we did too. It's not just the lights and decorated trees, it's the feeling one gets inside one's heart after seeing something beautiful as this. Priceless!
Vorrei continuare questa tradizione di andare a vedere le luci di Natale, a Jacomo e` piaciuto molto, nonostante la giovane eta`. Non sono solo le luci e gli alberi decorati, e` come ci fa sentire dentro dopo aver visto uno spettacolo cosi` bello e magico. Non ha prezzo!

16 Months- 16 Mesi

16 months have gone by already, and I still can’t believe it, even after all this time. With the Christmas season approaching fast, my heart is heavier and sadder for not having our little girl with us. Holidays in general are extremely hard on us, more than each passing day. We feel the void our Vittoria left tremendously. Even though this is the second Christmas without her, it's still very painful and the heartache has never ceased.
Sono gia` trascorsi 16 mesi, e ancora non ci posso credere, nonostante sia passato tutto questo tempo. Con la stagione natalizia in arrive, il mio cuore e` ancora piu` triste perche` non abbiamo la nostra bimba con noi. Le festivita` in generale sono piuttosto dure per noi, piu` di ogni giorno che passa. Sentiamo l’orribile vuoto che la nostra Vittoria ha lasciato. Anche se questo e` gia` il secondo Natale senza di lei, e` ancore molto doloroso e la pena nel cuore non ha mai cessato.


I struggled with the whole Christmas shopping thing. I often found myself wondering around the store asking myself if she would have liked that dress or this book. I don’t do it on purpose, but it sure is a way to torture one's heart.
Ho avuto non poche difficolta`a fare shopping per I regali di Natale. Mi sono ritrovata spesso in giro per negozi a chiedermi se a Vittoria sarebbe piaciuto quel vestito o questo libro, ecc. Non lo faccio apposta, ma e` sicuramente un modo per torturarsi il cuore.





This year I wanted to make sure to be able to decorate her grave a few days before Christmas. The flowers and the pinwheel (completely destroyed by the wind and cold weather) were taken off and replaced with a Christmas wreath. But I wanted to add something that said “little girl”, so I added some small golden flowers and a big lavender bow (done by James’ mom). And then her daddy brought her a small teddy bear.
Quest’anno volevo essere sicura di poter adornare la sua tomba qualche giorno prima di Natale. I fiori e la girandole ( completamente distrutta dal vento e il freddo) sono stati tolti e sostituiti con una ghirlanda di Natale. Volevo poi aggiungere qualcosa che fosse piu` per una bimba, cosi` ci ho messo dei fiori dorati e un grande fiocco lilla ( fatto dalla mamma di James). Il suo papa` le ha poi portato un orsacchiotto.



Even though the grass is brown and the trees are bare, the cemetery is slowly filling up with several Christmas wreaths on the graves. Everywhere you turn, there are red bows peaking here and there.
Anche se il prato e` oramai marrone e gli alberi spogli, il cimitero si sta riempiendo lentamente con le corone di Natale poste sulle tombe. Ovunque guardi, ci sono fiocconi rossi che spuntano qua e la`.
Vittoria, you are always in our minds and hearts. We miss you!
Vittoria, sei sempre nei nostri pensieri e nei nostri cuori. Ci manchi!

THANKSGIVING 2010- GIORNO DEL RINGRAZIAMENTO 2010

I just realized that last year I never did do a Thanksgiving post.. and truthfully I don't remember much of it anyway.
This year like tradition,we went up to the cabin with James'family. IT WAS SOOO COLD!! We snowmobiled in and the temperature was already 10 degrees... well that first night it went down to -16!!! Everything around us was frozen, car doors, sleds, even the snowmobiles had some hard time to get started. But no matter what, the view was just breathtaking.
Mi sono accorta solo adesso che l'anno scorso non ho mai fatto un'entrata nel blog sulla Festa del Ringraziamento... e onestamente non ricordo quasi niente lo stesso, quindi..
QUest'anno come da tradizione siamo andati alla baita con la famiglia di James. FACEVA UN FREDDO MOSTRUOSO!!! Abbiamo caricato le motoslitte nel primo pomeriggio e gia` faceva -12 gradi!!! Tutto intorno a noi era congelato, le portiere delle macchine, le slitte, persino le motoslitte hanno avuto difficolta` ad accendersi. Ma niente a confronto con la bellezza del paesaggio.

For Thanksgiving Day it was just the three of us and James'parents, and later in the day the rest of the family came up. The time spend outside wasn't much, due to the extreme cold temperatures, but it was good to stay inside, eating and visiting with the family.
Per il giorno del Ringraziamento eravamo solo noi tre con i genitori di James, mentre il resto della famiglia e` arrivato poi in serata. Il tempo trascorso fuori purtroppo non e` stato molto, a causa delle rigide temperature, ma e` stato ugualmente piacevole stare dentro la baita, al calduccio, a mangiare e in compagnia.

Jacomo loves snowmobiles, any chance he got to be outside, you would find him perched on top of one, ready to go. Just one of the many loves he shares with Vittoria.
Jacomo ama le motoslitte, qualsiasi occasione aveva di andare fuori, lo ritrovavamo seduto su una motoslitta, pronto a partire. Una delle tante passioni che condivide con la sorella.
