13 Months-13 Mesi

(Mom's turn)

13 months and 7 days have gone by since our little girl has left us. Yes, I guess I'm counting the days and months that go by, I can't help it, the pain is so alive and intense and I can't believe that she is really gone, I can't wrap my head around it. Maybe it's still denial, maybe it's just plain heartache of a parent who hopes to wake up from this nightmare, I don't know, I just know that I miss our Vittoria with every fiber of my being.

We went to Price to visit James' family and to make our monthly visit to Vittoria's grave. It was still very pretty around with the green lawn, the perfect fall temperature and the blue sky it was a nice quiet day to be at the cemetery. I went by myself for the first time. I brought her purple flowers and sat there for a while surround by nothing except silence. It was incredibly tough to do, but I needed to do it for my own sake.

We spent four days hanging out and watching movies, Jacomo got to play with his cousins and I visited friends and family. It was a good and relaxing time and so much needed.
Mary, my sis-in-law, sent me a very touching email with this poem included. I don't know how she knew I needed these words more than ever. Thank you sweet Mary for thinking of me.
Grazie Mary per aver pensato a me.

I thought of you and closed my eyes
And prayed to God today
I asked "What makes a Mother?"
And I know I heard Him say."

A Mother has a baby"
This we know is true"
But God can you be a Mother,
When your baby's not with you?"

"Yes, you can," He replied
With confidence in His voice"
I give many women babies,
When they leave is not their choice.

Some I send for a lifetime,
And others for the day.
And some I send to feel your womb,
But there's no need to stay."

"I just don't understand this God
I want my baby to be here."
He took a deep breath andcleared His throat,
And then I saw the tear.

"I wish I could show you,
What your child is doing today.
If you could see your child's smile,
With all the other children and say...

'We go to Earth to learn our lessons,
Of love and life and fear.
My Mommy loved me oh so much,
I got to come straight here.

I feel so lucky to have a Mom,
Who had so much love for me.
I learned my lessons very quickly,
My Mommy set me free.

I miss my Mommy oh so much,
But I visit her every day.
When she goes to sleep,
On her pillow's where I lay

I stroke her hair and kiss her cheek,
And whisper in her ear.
Mommy don't be sad today,
I'm your baby and I'm here.'

"So you see my dear sweet ones,
your children are okay.
Your babies are born here in My home,
And this is where they'll stay.

They'll wait for you with Me,
Until your lesson's through.
And on the day that you come home
they'll be at the gates for you.

So now you see what makes a Mother,
It's the feeling in your heart
it's the love you had so much of
Right from the very start."

E l'ho sentito dire:
"Una madre ha un/a bimbo/a"
"e questo so che e' vero,
ma Signore come puoi essere madre
quando il/la tuo/a bimbo/a non e' con te?"
"Lo puoi essere lo stesso" Lui rispose
con sicurezza nella voce
"Do' a molte donne dei bimbi

"Allora vedete miei dolci cari,
i vostri bimbi stanno bene.
proprio dall'inizio".

(Mom's turn)
Vittoria would have been 9 years old today...Not how we imagined we would be spending this birthday, or last year's birthday. I often think what she would have liked as a birthday present or what kind of cake she would have wanted. I know she would have liked to have her family and friends around, so we tried to honor that.
Vittoria avrebbe compiuto 9 anni oggi..
Last birthday she celebrated with us she was turning 7 and she had her cousins and friends celebrating with her. She looked so beautiful with her long brown hair and her pretty eyes behind her purple glasses. She had a great time. She never had a big birthday party before, but that was the only time when we had lots of people over... almost like we knew it would have been her last birthday.

After spending the weekend at the cabin and meeting with my uncle and aunt and cousins from Italy, on Monday the 23rd, we made it to Price to meet James' family and our friends.

We arrived at the cemetery to see that Vittoria's photo had been finally put on her grave marker, it was complete. I think it turned out pretty nice and I love this photo of hers because it sums up her personality: her braids, her smile with a missing tooth, her purple glasses and her pose like a princess. That's our baby girl.

We all met at the cemetery and others from their homes to launch the balloons precisely at 5:46pm. The purple, pink and white balloons had attached messages from people all over the United States and Italy. Vittoria loved to launch balloons. Her school did it every year as a kick off to a new school year. We are sure she was smiling as we let them go.
Vittoria amava lanciare i palloncini.

We as parents are so grateful for all of your love and support. It was a pretty tough day. We had all of James' family there, and also my parents, my uncle and aunt, and my 2 cousins from Italy and close family friends. Thank you to all of you who have launched balloons from your own home to honor our daughter and to those who could not be there but sent messages to launch with the balloons. It moved us deeply to see how many people still care and love us. It was a very special moment. To top it off, our little boy, who seconds earlier was playing with his cousins, stopped by Vittoria's grave, knelt and ran his little chubby fingers down Vittoria's face and started talking gibberish. I think he was talking to her in his own way. Afterwards, we all went to James parent's home for a delicious dinner, put together by his mom and our 4 sisters.

Our most sincere and heartfelt thanks go to Pat & Joyce @ Worley-Jensen Monument for making Vittoria's stone so beautiful and priceless.

Sweet Vittoria, we miss you tremendously and love you always!!

August 16th, 2010- 16 Agosto 2010

(Mom's turn)
One year ago, our sweet baby girl left this earth to go back to our Heavenly Father.
I have no words to describe this first year without her, an endless nightmare that no parents should go through, a huge hole left in our broken hearts. We have been trying to go on, to pick up the pieces and live our lives at the best we could, but it's not the same. It will NEVER EVER be the same.

We miss her so so much. It tears my heart apart to think of all the suffering this brave daughter of ours had to endure in her short life, but she was the only one strong and courageous enough to be able to do it. I don't know how she did it, and always with a smile on her face, ALWAYS.

We headed down to Price and met with James'family (except for Mary, Luke & girls whom we missed) and we found out that she got her grave marker, minus her photo. It took some time to decided how to design it and what to put on it. She liked so many things, but mostly horses, butterlies and we added a design of her sitting on Jesus'lap.

(the photo on the marker is just one I had with me, but wanted to see how it would have looked-La foto di lei messa sulla lapide e' soltanto una che avevo con me, ma volevo vedere come sarebbe venuta)

The idea of this last design also came actually from a drawing our dear friend Darlene did for us for Christmas, but also we wanted to copy one of Vittoria's drawing she did back in September of '07 when she drew herself sitting on Jesus's lap.

(by Vittoria-sept 2007)
Seeing the marker was very tough, it made it even more real that she is indeed gone, but I think she would have liked it. Our last tangible gift to her, one gift that we would never in our whole life immagined to give to her.

We want to thank our families near and far, friends and even total strangers who have showed us love and support in so many ways, every single day, but especially today. Thank you to those who could come and to those who couldn't, but were there with their hearts and prayers.
We love you and thank you for loving and caring about our daughter!

11 Months-11 Mesi

Our sweet baby girl went back to Heavenly Father 11 months ago today. How surreal! 11months ago, we were getting ready for her surgery, playing with her and holding and hugging her. Today, like every day I feel the emptiness in my arms.
I know our Vittoria is always with us, everywhere we go, but it's the physical touch and the sound of her voice that we miss so terribly. Yesterday, I had my little boy in my lap and we were sitting in front of the computer. We started watching home videos of our Vittoria: hearing her voice, seeing her facial expression were just pure joy to our ears and eyes, he kept pointing his little chubby finger to the screen and saying "IAIA" (Vittoria).
11 months have gone by, but Vittoria is in every minute of our everyday...
WE LOVE YOU & MISS YOU VITTORIA!!
Daddy, Mamma & Jacomo

TI VOGLIAMO BENE E CI MANCHI VITTORIA!!
