Sunday Evening The Battle is Won
Vittoria Giulia Frandsen, born August 23, 2001 at 5:46 pm, passed peacefully into our Heavenly Father's arms on her Grandma Bonnie's birthday, August 16, 2009 at 5:46pm.
Today started out well as everything was stable but the bleeding continued. Some clot had to be removed from the drain tube. At a certain point this morning, she started having issues with her lungs. After an x-ray, it was found that she had more liquid on the "good" lung. We took her to get a CT scan and it was revealed that she had blood inside her lung. It was also discovered that she had an infection around her heart. It was around 2:30pm that we found out. By 4pm, she was fading fast. The pressure in her chest inhibited breathing and the heart pumps were struggling to pump the blood. We had reached the point of no return.
We called the family to gather, but Vittoria faded so quickly. It was time to make that decision that I never, ever wanted to be forced into. We had to decide to stop support to let the suffering end. It was the hardest thing we could ever be asked to do, but every second had become a painful struggle. Words cannot describe the feelings of sorrow, guilt, pain.... utter agony we felt.
We take solace in the fact that we were there and able to tell her how much we loved her. That we knew she loved us and that we were honored and privileged to be the parents of such a remarkable perfect angel. We told her how proud she always made us. We made the best of the final moments God gave us.
We are comforted in our beliefs. Our religion has been our foundation. We know that the family unit is eternal, that we will be with her again. We know that God lives and is there with open arms as we have felt his arms around us so many times throughout the past few weeks. We have seen the miracles and witnessed the power of God as Vittoria was victorious in her valiant battle to live. Tonight, we witnessed the miracle of her passing, knowing that her tired little body was left behind, yet her spirit, unbound, is free and is now unimpeded by the physical struggle she has known for nearly 8 years. We believe that she was a valiant spirit that is as perfect as they come, with no requirement to be tried and tested in this mortal life. She is with God now, in Celestial glory. That is where our angel, our little princess is now.
It has been and still is an honor, a privilege, a remarkable opportunity to say that we are and to actually be her parents. WE LOVE HER! We love all of you who have prayed for us and for her. We Thank you for all of your love and support. Please keep us in your prayers in the days and weeks to come as we adjust to not having our little princess here with us. May God bless us and you. Goodnight
(We will post the funeral details in the next day or two)

Oh no! I don't know what to say...I cannot imagine how you guys must feel. I am so very deeply saddened to hear that Vittoria has passed. I really felt another miracle was coming for her. Our hearts go out to your family at this time. I so wished this would have turned out differently. Vittoria truely put up the good fight. I wish I had some words of comfort for you guys. Your faith in the Lord truely humbles me at this time. How can anyone get through such difficult times without the knowledge of the gospel to comfort them? At least Vittoria is finally in a place that matches her beautiful little spirit! I know you will see her again.
ReplyDeleteWith much sympathy,
Lora, Rod and girls

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful daughter with us. She was such a sweet heart. Everytime Gage or I came into the classroom, she had a contagious smile to share. Gage will truly miss seeing her, she was such a nice friend. Our thoughts are with you at this time, and we pray you will find the peace and comfort you need.

ReplyDeleteWe are so very sorry... our most sincere prayers of comfort and peace are with you.

Having lost a child I can feel your great aoin and sorrow. But you have such a deep knowledge of the gospel it will carry you through this time of sorrow. I was at the hospital the day Vittoria came in and there was just something about her spirit that made me want to root for her and pray for her everyday. All I know about you and your family is from your blog and seeing you daily at the hospital, I can guarantee that you and your family have touched hundreds of people lives and we are better people from knowing vittoria and your family. We will keep you in our prayers as you start another chapter in your lives. I know that Hevenly Fahter knows your pain and will comfort you.

Going through that I can now say I KNOW that families are forever and that we will be with them again. I'm so sorry...I love you Val.

We have felt your joys and sorrows as we have read the progress of your little princess, Vittoria! Her name implies now her reward..VICTORY! She has passed the earthly test and now waits in the Celestial Kingdom for her wonderful family to join her. Seeing your faith and testimony through this trial, I have no doubt that you each will receive that same Victory. May God bless you and continue to lift you as you continue to see miracles happen daily. FAMILIES ARE FOREVER! We love you! Mark, Kristina McAfee and family
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear of her passing, but I can't help but think of the amazing welcome she must have received! Great Grandma and Grandpa Oviatt for one, and so many more must have been lined up to greet her! It must have been quite the sight. Your family is in our prayers!

We have never met and maybe we never will. But I wanted you to know that you have been in our thoughts and prayers for the past several weeks as Vittoria has been in the hospital and we have found out about your situation. Please know our prayers continue with you during this excruciating time. I have felt the Spirit and know that your sweet angel is, indeed, waiting for you with our Father in Heaven. May God's choicest blessings be yours.
ReplyDeleteSincerely, Ken and Becky Ivory
Val and James, You have friends that mourn Vittoria with you. She is an amazing little girl and I have many fun memories of her, especially her feisty spirit. She always amazed me with her toughness. I feel privileged to get to know your family as her first physical therapist and then to love you as friends. Our prayers for comfort are with you. Love, Chris and Julie Colt
ReplyDeleteVal and James, My little Hannah and I have been praying for Vittoria every day. We are so sorry to hear of her passing and the pain you must be experienceing right now! But we are also so happy to have the knowledge as you do that she is in her Heavenly Fathers home. She has thrones awaiting her there! I love you and will continue praying for you! Love always, Nicki and Jason Ehlers and Family
ReplyDeleteI'm am so sorry for your loss! She was a very special little girl! I will miss her beautiful smile! Words can't express my sadness! I pray that the Lord will be with your family during this difficult time.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I never met Vittoria she changed my life. She made me realize the things I always thought were important were actually very trivial. Seeing and hearing all of the prayers and good wishes and fundraisers showed me that in difficult times peoples true selves came through. I hold my children tighter and feel blessed for what I have. Thank you Vittoria for being so brave and thank you Val and James for sharing her journey. We love you and pray that you will find peace in your journey forward.
ReplyDeleteChris and Kelly Gedicks

You had a remarkable girl there and its comforting to know you will be all together in the days to come. May God be with you during this time.

Because of your willingness to share your most tender feelings, my testimony has grown. You are very special people to have been given the opportunity to be Vittoria's parents.

We were so sad to get the news that you had to make such an agonizing decision on Sunday night. We were actually on our way to a fireside for all of the dedication choirs for the Oquirrh Mountain Temple Dedications to sing the songs I have been practicing for our families, including the Hosannah Chorus/Spirit of God with the congregration, when Travis got the news. We immediately teared up, knowing what that meant, and my heart just broke for you both. As I sang the Hosannah Chorus that night, the Spirit was SO strong. It truly testified to the power and blessing of the Temple. That families really will be together forever. Tears flowed as I tried to get through the words of the song, knowing the pain and loss you were suffering at the same moment at a hospital across the valley from us. I am so grateful for temples, and for the gospel - that we have the knowledge that we will be reunited with the angel babies and children that we are sometimes forced to be separated from here on earth. Our thoughts and prayers have been with you all week, and will continue to be. May the Spirit of the Lord comfort and buoy you during this devastating time. Your strength and testimonies during her battle and now in the face of such loss, is amazing. You are truly angels here on earth.
ReplyDeleteMuch Love, Sara and Travis Larson
Diego&family
